This is for you Aunt S.

This is for you Aunt S.

Wanted to add one more picture from my Saturday escapade. This is Brandy Aunt S.'s cat that she has had many years. Can't believe that she set still long enought for me to take a picture. As you can see she is a bit suspicious of me and about ready to boult, but she is just too comfortable on Great Gandma's and Grandpa's new porch.

These pictures are for L. . So far away from home he misses his buddy, monster dog, Mortemer.

Let me tell you L., he misses you to. He will be so glad to see you and run around with you.

He will be so much more mature and now he knows how to swim and play catch. You will have great fun with him.

Saturday Fun and Great Grandma's and Grandpa's

I had a really great day today, very busy. Started off going to Great Grandma’s and Grandpa’s to help Aunt S. sort through items that she took out of her storage unit. She is living in Great Grandma’s and Grand’pa’s trailer in the back of their house. They also fixed up the old dark room into a work room for Aunt S. It is really going to look good.

First I decided to take some pictures of all the great thing that the three of them have been doing. This is their back yard. Great Grandma and Aunt S. designed and made this fountain. They did a great job. There is such a great spirit to just sit back there. Does feel like you are in the middle of the city.

They have also planted a great garden. What great food they will produce this summer. Yeaaaaaaaaa, Aunt S. said that they will have enough to share. Great job everyone, you are making a difference and obeying the prophet.

Uncle G. and Aunt L.K. helped Great Grandpa, Aunt S.. Two young men from the ward helped do the heavy lifting. Thank you so much we all (with bad backs) really appreciate it.

Here is the stack of boxes that we had to go through for Aunt S.. Went fast and we finished by noon. Good luck Aunt S., getting through the 2nd and 3rd look. Hopefully soon you will have it all slimed down and in its proper place. It will make it so much easier while you are tying to get better. Hope that you are up and around soon so that you can go places and have fun.

Also wanted to share what they are doing to the front porch. Sure wouldn’t want to walk on this now. But, when it is finished it will be a lot safer.

Arrow Rock Dam

The second part of the day we took a very, very long ride with the Dogs over wash board roads up past Arrow Rock Dam. The dogs were so excited to get out of the van and have some time running around. So many great smells to smell. Much different from home.

There Dad taught Monster Dog Mortamer to Swim. Yes, yes—Dad had to get wet in order to coax Mortamer out.

Mortamers favorite thing was to chew on the water. He just couldn't figure out how come something that he could feel would keep moving everything he tried to bite it. It was great fun to watch.

Suzzy hid under the van where it was cool and away from the water. All in all it was a great day.

Finally Mortamer learned to swim and then to fetch, all in one day. Dad had a cool swim and froze all the way home. Great job Dad, you taught him so much in one day, and we had a great time doing it. It will even be more fun on our camping trip. I think that we will be camping next to a large river. Mortemer will have great fun doing a lot of swimming, and we will have fun throwing sticks in the water for Mortemer to swim after. Looking forward to it. Hopefully some of the kids can come up and visit with us.

Survey

So this is called Tag, you are it. It is a game where someone sends to questions and you have to answer. So S. and S. have already done this and it is my turn.

How long did you date?
Dad and I met in 1975 the summer after I graduated from High School. The first time I saw him was at Camp Pine top. He was tall and good looking. We were there on a Young Adult service project. We were cleaning the area up in preparation for Girls camp. He kept tossing the ball up and down and saying, “Lets play football (sounds like L.)” and were is the food. When all the young adult representatives (I was one) met at the truck he showed up. Low and behold he was the Rep. for the ward next to mine, in my ward building. During the rest of the summer and the winter Dad and I were the young adult representatives for all three wards in our building. We worked together on a weekly bases and sometimes more. We had a lot of fun together but we didn’t officially date most of that year. When he found out around Valentine’s day that my birthday that I had turned 19 years old, he gave me a flower and a box of chocolates. I thought it was pretty great. I had quite the cruch on him.

Our first real date was after he moved to Provo, UT and came back. All together we had about 5 official dates before we got engaged. But those dates were spread over August 1976 to March 12, 1977.

Who said I love you first?
I made Dad say it first. When get got engaged on March 12, 1977 he took me up to Sqaw Peak. He prepared a wonderful picnic lunch. I was completely clueless, I had no idea that he had alternative plans. For desert he gave me a little package tied up with a (fairly) neat bow. When I opened it, it was a plaque with a picture of a cute little puppy on the front and it said something about being friends. I said “thanks.” He said “turn it over.” When I flipped it over the card on the back flipped over and on it was written, “Well you marry me. PS I love you.”

I was completely shocked. I just sat there. We had never talked about marriage before. Dad had never said he loved me. I thought that, that would be a requirement before you were engaged. So after awhile I started talked. Everytime I started to say Yes I just couldn’t say it. I made him sit there for 4 hours in all. Finally I said, “Okay, if you want me to answer you, you are going to have to ask it in person. Finally he said, “well you marry me.” After the 4 hours I had made him sit there suffering I said, “Yes” and gave him a big hug. He then, for the first time, said “I love you.” About drove him crazy and he married me anyway.

How long have you been married?
31 years

Who eats more sweets?
He does of course. Who else.

How old is he?
He is 53 and will be 54 in a couple of days. I am still a child at 51.

Who is taller?
He is a guy isn’t he, he is taller. But when I wear tall heels we are about the same.

Who is smarter?
He has always thought he was.

Who can sing better?
I do better most of the time. I pretty well shot my voice but I can still sing in a choir. Dad though is trying more. Just before we took our summer break in choir he joined (thanks LLcool for the help).

Who does the laundry?
I do. I happen to like whites to be white.

Who pays the bills?
I do. He use to and it was a mess. Not that I do a lot better, but I try harder.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?
Depends on which right. The right when you are laying in bed and looking at the foot of the bed, in that case Dad does. If you are standing at the foot of the bed looking at the pillows, then I sleep on the right side of the bed. Kind of funny but we always choose the same side.

Who mows the lawn?
When we got our new place we got a riding mower, with a little canopy on the top. Dad just loves coming home from work in the summer and getting a nice cold Diet Coke and hop on his riding mower and toowl around the yard. He does a really great job. He then waters all the trees that he planted and even waters my tomatos and herbs.

Who cooks dinner?
Mostly I do, but he does help out at times.

Who drives?
I love to drive. But, when he is in the car I have found that if I want to save our marriage I let him drive. He is a terrible back seat driver and really drives me crazy with all the complaints. It is just easier to let him drive.

Who is more stubborn?
Definitely he is.

Who kissed who first?
Dad, and suprized we with it too. In fact, although he is not the only guy I kissed, he is the first one that ever kissed me.

Who asked who out?
He asked me out.

Who proposed?
See above.

Who has more siblings?
There are 6 of us in my family (2 boys and 4 girls). Dad has 7 in his family—although in heaven it will be 8, his oldest brother died at birth.

Who wears the pants?
He will always believe that he does. Who else ;-)

Cents of Style- #2

So the begining of the story is in the next post.

Here we see Sherri, she really made a haul. Beautiful red shoes (I really like these, I picked out the same ones), pink purse, a necklase and bracelet, and of course the headband looks really good on her.

She ought to have a lot of fun dressing up with her new items. Sherri you will just have to take some pictures.

M is just like her brother, hates to get her picture taken. But I did get a side shot. Love ya so much M. smile for me next time, I love to see that beautiful smile.

I did get M. to let me take a picture of her new bright yellow shoes, 12 years going on 16. Gorgeous

Here is the group together. M. is still trying to show her displeasure. If you see this, sorry, I just love looking at my family. If I get a bit lonely (working at home all day) I love to look at my pictures and think about all of you. Love you so very much.

Cents of Style

Sherri had a Cents of Style party at her house. She had a good turn out and we had a lot of fun. M. L. was there and practicing on her walking skills. She is really looking cute. She is playing her fish face. I wish that I could have gotten a picture of that, she really reminds me of L her sister. L and C were at K.s house playing with their cousins.

There was cute necklases, bracelets and ear rings. Very nice and affordable. Everyone seemed to be having fun.

There was fancy purses, belts and shoes galore. Everyone found something to interest them.

Corin looked and looked and finally she founda really cute belt.

Katie found a cute pink purse and beautiful blue shoes. She has amazingly small feet.

L's mission

This is my baby. Grown up quite a bit wouldn't you say. The top of the picture is when L. received his mission call. What a fun time. He waited to open it until Dad got there. We were very happy when we found that he went to the Nashville, TN mission. He had a great time for 2 years and we really missed him. These are pictures just before he left. We love him and are glad that he is going on with his life. He is living back east and is selling security systems. He is loving it and doing a great job. We love you L. and pray for you everyday.

Wandering the Red Woods

I would like to share with you my favorite poem. I guess I like this the best because it kind of explains my life.

When L went on his mission I took a very long drive. It helped to get my head back together (guess I could use another long drive, only the gas is too expensive now). On the way back home I took several pictures in the Red Woods so that I could use them to illustrate my favorite poem. Well I couldn't find the perfect picture, but I sure had fun trying. I still have dreams about going back and just sitting in the Red Woods and enjoying the beautiful spirit that exists there. It was humbling to be in a forest that was probably around when the Savior walked the earth.

Without further ado:

Two Roads Diverged in a Yellow Wood
By Robert Frost

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

So I look really weird here. Still have those big glasses. This is Mercy school of nursing. C and I went to school together and graduated together. She stayed on and I came back to Home. Took her a while to come back home but then she took off after a few years and made her home even further West.

We enjoyed going to school together. There was always some mild competition going on that kept us doing the best that we could. It is great having family support in the crazy things that we choose to do. It was also get to get to know my sister better. She is a great lady.

It took me a long time to get back to school. I was 12 years out of High School when I went back to college. I was one of the oldest ones there. I worked really hard and in the end I was the only one in the history of the school (started in 1906) who went through school as a mother of 5 children. The next closest one had 4 children and she was on academic probation the whole time. I graduated 3rd in my class. Of course that is not saying much, there were only 30 in my graduating class.

I love being a nurse. I have chosen lots of different direction to take my nursing career through the years. All the long hours drove my family crazy, but it did a good job in helping to support the family, and continues to do so.

Graduation Girl

Look at those glasses. Can someone tell that this picture was taken in the 70's, This is my first graduation picture. I am 18 years old here and it really shows what the year can do to a person. Actually, the hair hasn't changed much, I am still wearing it pretty much the same hair style (not very creative, S. is dieing to have me go to her hair dresser) but boy has the face and everything else changed. I will have to find some other pictures of my many graduations. After this one I have had 3 more.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have a truely great mother, who is a great artist. These are just a few of the wonderful pictures that she has drawn. Can you believe it. I am truely impressed. Thanks Mom for all the beautiful work that you do. It is amazing.

More pictures of the afgan. Took lots and lots of work, so I thought I would show it a few times.

This is Great Grandpa H day after he got home. He sure looks a lot better now. I will have to get a picture and show how he looks now. He is getting around well, better endurance, and has lost some weight. He is being really good at is diet and trying to improve his heart health.

Crazy Blanket

Well I haven't added any new blogs for months, boy that is crazy. I have my computer up and running and can get to my pictures. So I am going to try and get this going again. I have enjoyed reading the other family blogs, so I am going to have to start sharing about Grandma and Grandpa G. We do have fun at times.
I started this afgan when I was on a business trip. I have a hard time finishing it, that is up until the time that Great Grandpa H had his surgery and I wanted to finish it for him. Hope that he enjoys it. It is kind of crazy though.
